IMPRESSIVE GRAIN SHIPMENTS MARK BUSY FALL SEASON AT PORT OF THUNDER BAY

port-2020-1
Port of Thunder Bay is pleased to report significant cargo volumes for the months of September and October, and the strongest year-to-date October totals in decades.
The month of September was busy on multiple fronts and particularly at Keefer Terminal, with inbound shipments of steel rail, steel pipe, phosphate fertilizer, and project cargo. The diverse slate of cargoes makes good use of Keefer Terminal's storage solutions, including its expansive laydown areas.
Shipments during the month of October were led by very strong grain volumes, which exceeded 1 million tonnes. This represents a 33% increase over the 5-year monthly average.
Potash tonnages trended well above average for both months.
Reported statistics exemplify the Port of Thunder Bay's crucial role in supporting the Western Canadian economy by providing an efficient gateway for East-West movement of goods.
